Club 132 Open Mic

6 PM – 7  PM in Room 132 in the DeMarneffe Building at McLean Hospital.

All are welcome to play music (covers are fine), sing songs, recite poetry/spoken word, or even just watch and support your peers!

It is also FREE! The open mic is a mini “Mill St. Showcase” but is formatted as a round (see details below). No advance sign-ups. Sign-up as you walk into Room 132.

Friendly Reminders:

KEEP IT SIMPLE! No backing tracks, no loop pedals, no drum kits, no special effects – bare bones like an “unplugged” open mic! (Save the fancy stuff for the Mill St. Showcase!)  This will keep the event flowing (i.e. less set-up, more performances).

Keep in mind that these limits may change in the future depending on feedback – we are still tweaking the open mic!

COMMUNITY-FRIENDLY SONGS/POEMS  Please be mindful of your audience – your peers who are in different stages of recovery and/or stability. As a caring and supportive community, we want to ensure that we keep our environment welcoming and safe for all who attends. Keep your songs as clean as possible (i.e. no culturally-insensitive materials, no self-harm themes, no mentioning of illegal substances, cursing, etc).

HOUSE INSTRUMENTS ARE AVAILABLE  We have 1 acoustic guitar, 1 classical guitar, 1 ukulele, 1 Cajon (drum box), 1 tambourine, and a number of egg shakers. You are free to use it for the session! How the Round Works: Each performer gets 1 turn per round for 1 song, 2 short poems (5-minute max strictly enforced). One round = the sign-up list from the 1st sign-up to the last sign-up. Note that the sign-up list may grow due to late sign-ups. Depending on sign-ups there could be more than 1 round, which means you will get to perform more than once! However, if you want to play/recite only once that is fine!

The last performance cut-off is at 6:50 PM. We need the extra time to prepare for groups.ALSO! The May Mill St. Showcase Sign-up Sheet will be available after the open mic! Look out for the sign-up sheet!
