How can creative writing be an effective tool for coping with mental health challenges? Come learn about how Sherri Levine, an award-winning poet, creative writing teacher, and mental health advocate from Portland, Oregon has used writing to help in her own mental health recovery story.
Sherri will provide a two-part series on Writing and Mental Well-Being. In the first session, Sherri will discuss her career as a poet and mental health advocate in relationship to her own mental health recovery; and, in the second session, Sherri will provide guidance on creative writing for participants who wish to use this as a tool to support their own mental health.
SPEAKER BIO
Sherri Levine is an award-winning poet, creative writing teacher, and mental health advocate, living in Portland, Oregon. She is the author of three poetry books, including I Remember Not Sleeping, an illustrated book dedicated to those struggling with mental illness or who know someone who is.
She believes in the power of writing in a community and offers workshops and classes in expressive writing. In her forthcoming anthology—Waking in the Blue: Poems & Essays on Mental Health, Sherri asked poets around the world to submit poems and essays asking how their mental health affects their poetry. This is an important and much-needed anthology, which offers powerful voices of strength, resilience, and hope.
