Peer Specialists are professionals with lived recovery experience who have been trained and certified to help others as they move forward in their own recovery. As those who have traveled a similar path, Peer Specialists foster hope and serve as valuable role models for those who are walking the road to wellness. This presentation will compare and contrast both CPS training approaches through DBSA National and the Kiva Centers in Massachusetts.
Bios
Douglas Hulst, CPRS, from DBSA National, has a unique blend of professional and lived experience which enables him to build and grow DBSA’s community of peer support specialists. Having experienced a mental health and substance use condition himself, Douglas strives to uplift others through peer support, community, and positivity.
An individual from Kiva Centers will speak about its Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) training and role in the community. The training program at Kiva is designed for people who have some knowledge and have their own experience with mental health peer support.
